Little League Coaches to the rescue!
Recently, Little League coaches went through a 1-Day, First Aid course at the Singapore Civil Defence Force. Realising the importance in training a person in the basic knowledge of first aid, the course will provide the coaches with the skills required to identify injuries and provide a level of first aid to prevent these injuries worsening by applying these first aid principles during sessions.
During the duration of the course, the coaches had a lot of fun learning various interesting ways at which we can render help to someone in need – right down from performing CPR to a dummy to the wrapping of bandages for various injuries. No prizes for guessing who used up all the bandages though!
The Importance of First Aid
Being certified to perform CPR can actually help save a life. Once heart beat, lung function, and respirations have stopped, CPR can be performed. CPR is most effective when begun as soon as possible, and the human body can only be deprived of oxygen for about six minutes before irreversible damage and death occur. Waiting for an ambulance to arrive can waste precious minutes. If an individual still has a heartbeat but needs assistance breathing, rescue breathing can be performed. Because of this, knowing CPR can actually mean the difference between life and death.
